“Change your thoughts and you change your world.”
– Dr. Norman Vincent Peale
It is my belief that many times we teach that which we need to learn. Please do not think that just because I am an attorney, a mentor, a medium, inspirational speaker and author of a book on overcoming challenges, that I am somehow insulated from negative thinking.
There is a magnetic energy in the mind that can attract your most dominant thoughts to you. Therefore, you must think and speak in terms of that which you want to master and the dreams you desire to manifest. And, the kicker, you must do so despite your present circumstances.
If you want to create health and prosperity in your life, you must set your intention to think in terms of abundance. Focusing on the lack of money in your wallet or where you fall short in your bank statement will not improve your situation. You will continue to experience the same or similar conditions and situations in your life if your thoughts are directed to the deficiencies in your bank account.
If you want to manifest love into your life, shift your thoughts to the person that you intend to attract. Be specific as to his or her qualities and attributes. Focusing your thoughts on the pain of past relationships and lamenting over your hurt and grief may only serve to attract similar types of people and associations into your life.
If you want to promote yourself professionally, think in terms of your gifts, talents and abilities. Review what you have already accomplished and project what you desire to achieve. Focusing on your lack of formal training or education or another person’s abilities will keep you at the same professional level. Does this mean that one negative thought or a bad day or week will contradict all your power thinking? Not anymore than one cookie will destroy an entire diet. If you continue, afterwards, to watch what you eat and maintain a healthy lifestyle, then your eating program remains intact and on course. The damage begins when you continue to eat one cookie after another.
It is the same with your thoughts. One or two negative thoughts will not counteract all your positive energy and intentions. There are times when you will be down. We live in a fast-paced society and a multitasking lifestyle. Sometimes, it is hard to keep up mentally and physically. When we are tired, it is easy to become discouraged and experience temporary thoughts of defeat.
Discouragement is not a mortal sin. It is human nature to experience the wide range of emotions God has given us. Allow yourself permission to be human and to just be. However, just as you have to make a conscious decision to put down the bag of cookies, you must consciously begin to flow positive energy into thoughts. Choose to think about what you do have, rather than what you do not have. Think about your unique gifts, talents and abilities, rather than about what you can’t do. Focus on the solution and the options and opportunities, rather than the problem, challenges and obstacles. Contemplate the realm of unlimited possibilities.
Reflection: Energy flows where your thought goes.
